Our Pastor

Pastor Herb Kolenda Jr. and family

Pastor Herb Kolenda Jr. has served as pastor of Lakeside Assembly of God since June of 1986. He came as a single young preacher who had been asked to fill the pulpit expecting to stay for perhaps six months.

Pastor Herb married the former Melodee Johnson in July, 1987, and has continued to serve with his new bride ever since. They have witnessed the Lord faithfully adding to the church starting from a group  of eight people to a growing congregation of about 60. Not only has the church family grown over the years, but their own family has grown as well. The Kolenda's have four children who now grace their home. Harmonee, Heidee, David and Hollee. Pastor Herb grew up in a preacher's home, born as the eldest son of ten children. He came to a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at a very early age and has lived for the Lord ever since. He attended bible college to prepare for ministry and graduated from Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God in 1978.  Agreeing to come to Menominee, he has grown in his ministry as the church has grown.

Melodee Kolenda also grew up in a preacher's home. Her father, the Rev. Gordon Johnson, pastored one church for 38 years and it was there she learned of the love of Jesus.  She attended North Central Bible College and then graduated from a business college. She worked for a time as the director of a Day Care Center before she married Pastor Kolenda. Since she joined her husband, she has been an invaluable help in the Girls, the children's, and the women's ministries of the church. An accomplished pianist, she helps direct the worship ministry of the church.

Together, Herb and Melodee have formed a ministry team that has led Lakeside Assembly of God for some 23 years. They have witnessed God provide the church family with a "new" building when they outgrew the old one. They have and are experiencing God's faithfulness when Pastor underwent cancer surgery twice and today is cancer free.

Their heart's desire is to see a thriving Pentecostal church grow and challenge the community of Menominee with the "full Gospel." Their greatest concern is to see people saved and set free from the power of sin. They continue to seek God's direction as they lead the church family of Lakeside Assembly of God.
